MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Growing up, we watched our father give roses and chocolates not just to my mother, but also to the ladies at the bank, the corner store, and frankly, anyone who took a moment to make his day special. Making a difference in other people’s lives was well-rooted in our genes long before our first fundraiser.
Fast forward to 2004, and our first Gala of Hope for Breast Cancer was created.
Navigating a cancer diagnosis was the hardest thing I have ever faced, but ensuring we made a difference for those enduring the same struggle was the easiest and most rewarding thing my family and I have ever accomplished. Over the next 10 years, we raised over $1.2 million and established a state-of-the-art Breast Assessment Centre. Today, we continue to try to make a difference.
During the week, we spend our days supporting seniors who need our assistance aging in place or moving to a new location as co-owners and employees of Downsizing Diva Durham.
On the weekends, we spend our days volunteering in our community at the 420 Wing in Oshawa or creating special events for the seniors at The Bartlett Senior Residence.
And on May 25th, we took a moment to raise awareness of MS. We are thrilled to announce that we raised $1050 for this important cause impacting families in Durham Region and abroad.
Somebody out there, at any moment, is struggling.
Wake up every day with the intent to make a difference.
Don’t cry over the raised toilet seat; somebody’s husband just died. They would give anything for one more raised toilet seat.
Don’t cry over your less-than-perfect body. Cancer left me with 48” of scars on my torso, and 1 original boob. I’ll still wear that damn bikini, and I don’t care. Stare all you want because I’m one of the lucky ones to say I’m alive. I survived cancer.
Upset with your child? Wait until they tell you they have depression, MS or worse, cancer! Your focus will change as the only thing that will matter to you is their health and well-being.
So eat the damn cookie. Buy yourself some flowers. Better yet, bring some to someone who needs them more than you do. Make a difference today.

Kudos for your company showing other small businesses that supporting their community, whatever that community is, is important. Now having see you ladies work, I have no doubt that you will not only do this walk, but be one of the front runners. You are all so committed to your fitness to be strong for your family and your jobs, but you are bringing this strength to your community engagement as well. Nothing but love and respect for all of you.
